    Amy was born Amy Jade Winehouse on 14 September 1983 in Southgate London. Her father was a window panel installer and a taxi driver, while her mother was a pharmacist.

    In 2002, she recorded several songs and later signed a publishing deal with EMI. In 2003, she released her debut album Frank which was a success in the United Kingdom. It received a nomination for the Mercury Prize.

    At the 50th Grammy Awards, the singer won five awards. It tied with the record for the most number of wins by a female artist in one night. One of her albums Back to Black was the best-selling album in the UK of the 21st century for a brief period of time.

    On the personal front, Winehouse was married to Blake Fielder-Civil from 2007 to 2009. She was in a relationship with filmmaker Reg Traviss from 2010 until she died.

    Throughout her life, Winehouse struggled with substance abuse, addiction, and mental health problems. In 2007, she was hospitalized for an overdose of several substances.

    On 23 July 2011, Winehouse passed away due to alcohol poisoning. She died at the age of 27, an age associated with Club 27 (artists who died at the exact same age).

    She has often been listed in lists of the most influential women in music of all time. She was also the subject of the 2015 documentary film ‘Amy‘ directed by Asif Kapadia.
