1. Ant-Man
To understand the Ant-Man saga, it is important to start with 2015 original ‘Ant-Man’. The original movie introduces Paul Rudd as Scott Lang a.k.a Ant-Man. It also features the first appearances of Hope van Dyne and the creator of Pym particles Hank Pym, who became prominent people in Scott’s life.
This is where Marvel Studios introduces the Quantum Realm and briefly teased the dimension where time and space function differently. Since the Ant-Man and the Wasp will revolve only around the Quantum Realm, it’s important to understand its history. The film also features Corey Stoll as Yellowjacket, who returns as MODOK in the trilogy and introduces Cassie, Scott’s daughter who will have a much more crucial role in phase five of the MCU.
2. Captain America: Civil War
‘Captain America: Civil War‘ marks the first movie of the MCU’s phase three. Ant-Man was directly involved with the Avengers siding with Captain America and getting into legal trouble for going against Sokovia Accords. This movie directly links with Ant-Man and the Wasp.
‘Captain America: Civil War‘ also marked a few pivotal moments of Scott Lang like the first transformation into a Gaint-Man. Later Captain American breaks Scott out from the Raft, but his actions already damaged his relationship with Hope van Dyne and Hank Pym.
3. Avengers: Infinity War
‘Avengers: Infinity War‘ introduces us to MCU’s villain Thanos. Though Scott Lang and his associates do not appear in the movie, it is necessary to watch before the third Ant-Man movie. Since his house arrest for his actions in ‘Captain America: Civil War‘, Scott sits out in this one war. But does he though?
The primary reason to watch Avengers: Infinity War is to understand the universe-altering event, which directly leads to Ant-Man’s future. But the real reason why Ant-Man couldn’t join the Avengers against Thanos is explained in The Ant-Man and the Wasp.

4. Ant-Man and The Wasp
‘Ant-Man and The Wasp‘ serve as a link between the previous three movies and ‘Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantamania‘. The third Ant-Man movie plays a big role in Scott Lang’s MCU story, but it is arguably even more significant for Hope van Dyne as she becomes the Wasp just like her mother.
The entire movie is about the team’s attempt to return to the Quantum Realm to find Janet van Dyne after she went subatomic. The movie marks a crucial point, as Janet will shred knowledge about Kang the Conqueror. Since to retrieve the particles from the Quantum Realm, Scott Lang goes into the Quantum tunnel and gets trapped there. Resulting in his absence in the Infinity War.
5. Avengers: Endgame
‘Avengers: Endgame‘ marks an important entry of Scott Lang escaping the Quantum Realm. The film is responsible for explaining Scott Lang’s escape from the Quantum Realm and how it can be used to defeat Thanos. Thus the result of the movie was devastating the death of Iron Man and Black Widow.
After the ‘Avengers: Endgame‘, Scott Lang became everyone’s favourite character and thus the expansion of the Ant-Man franchise will provide a stable portrayal of Scott Lang. The exploration of the Quantum Realm as a place that allows for time travel could be important for the upcoming Ant-Man movie and for explaining Kang the Conqueror’s mission.
6. Loki: Season one
Though Tom Hiddleston does not reprise his role as Loki in the upcoming Ant-Man movie, it will help to watch or re-watch ‘Loki‘ season one. The ‘Loki‘ series deals with the various timelines and the various variants of Loki.
The show was the first to introduce the first Kang variant along with He Who Remains. Season one of the show also hints toward the Multiverse War providing Kang’s backstory. There might be a high chance that Ant-Man will be involved in the Multiverse War to stop Kang and its variants.
