Black Cat has always been one of Spider-Man’s most popular allies and sometimes rivals. Yet, Felicia Hardy has still not made her live-action debut in the MCU, despite years of fan demand.

Apparently, that was about to change with ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’. However, those plans went sour before they were put into action.

The speculation claims that Marvel was planning to use Black Cat in the next movie, with Anne Hathaway being approached for the character. However, after the actress reportedly declined the opportunity, the character was removed from the project altogether.

While neither Marvel Studios nor Sony Pictures has confirmed the report, it has already sparked plenty of discussion among Spider-Man fans. If the rumour is true, it would not be the first time that Anne Hathaway was rumoured to be playing Felicia Hardy.

Before she got the part of Selina Kyle in Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Dark Knight Rises, Hathaway was said to be in talks to play Black Cat in Sam Raimi’s ‘Spider-Man 4’ with Tobey Maguire. That movie was shelved by Sony in 2010, and Black Cat’s live-action debut remains on hold.

It seems like history has repeated itself, as another opportunity was lost before production more than 10 years later. It’s another reminder to long-time Spider-Man fans of the elusive nature of the character, despite her popularity in the Marvel Comics universe.

Black Cat Can Still Join The MCU

Black Cat has always been a special addition to Peter Parker’s universe. Felicia Hardy’s relationship with Spider-Man is a complex one. Unlike many of his other allies, Hardy often walks the line between hero and antihero, creating a relationship built on trust, tension, and unpredictability.

After the emotional conclusion of ‘No Way Home’, many thought that it would be an ideal time to bring in a new character for Peter. And Black Cat was a good choice. However, of course, the report is unconfirmed; Marvel could still have plans for Felicia Hardy in another project.

Fans will surely keep hoping that one of Spider-Man’s most iconic comic book partners will eventually join the MCU if she didn’t make the cut for ‘Brand New Day’. Until Marvel officially reveals the film’s full cast, Black Cat’s future remains one of the biggest unanswered questions surrounding Spider-Man’s next adventure.
