Thor and Loki have long been awaited to reunite in the MCU, but what if their reunion in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ becomes the MCU’s darkest moment? Plenty of theories suggest Doctor Doom kills Loki to take over the multiverse, but a far more sinister theory is that Loki may need to stay alive to keep Doom’s new reality from collapsing.
Doctor Doom Could Use Loki To Hold Battleworld Together

In the final episode of Loki season 2, Loki gives up his freedom in exchange for saving the multiverse, controlling the different timelines and holding them together. Instead of sitting on a throne and ruling over others, Loki spends eternity keeping countless realities alive.

This makes him a very significant character for both ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’. In Marvel Comics, Battleworld is a universe assembled by Doctor Doom from the ruins of a broken multiverse. Loki’s role in the multiverse is an interesting possible link to that world.
Picture Loki, God of Mischief, under Doom’s throne, bound by his power to hold up the world, while Doom builds Battleworld around his cosmic tree. Doom can’t just destroy the multiverse; he can use the person who is keeping it alive. It’s just a guess, but it would allow Loki to play a pivotal part in the battle.
Thor And Loki Could Face Their Most Painful Choice Yet

Thor will be over the moon when he finds Loki still alive. Thor has been through years of grief after losing his parents, home, and even his brother. If he discovers that Loki is still alive, and that he is imprisoned and suffering, it’s going to be devastating.

But the worst of it would be if Loki didn’t want to be saved. Thor would have to face an impossible choice: if he were to rescue him, he would be destroying Battleworld and possibly countless lives that are locked within it.
The brother who once struggled to escape Thor’s shadow would finally ask him to trust his decision, even when it means losing him again. There is no sign that Marvel will go this route, but it would make their meeting more than just an emotional moment.
