‘Avengers: Endgame’ already has one of the busiest superhero scenes ever on screen in the final battle. Portals open, armies charge into battle, and practically every major hero gets a moment to shine. However, there is one army that could have made the situation even more absurd: Ant-Man‘s giant ants.
The Giant Ant Army Was Just Too Much
Paul Rudd’s character, Scott Lang, had an obvious army at his disposal. His connection with ants had been in place since the first Ant-Man film, and Marvel’s concept artwork for ‘Endgame’ reportedly featured giant ants battling the Avengers.

Envision thousands of giant ants running across the battlefield with Captain America, Thor and Black Panther. It sounds totally nuts, and it would have been fun. The main reason for the concept not being part of the final film was the scale of the final battle.
The Avengers were already engaged in battle with a massive army of Thanos’ creatures. It would have been even more difficult to follow an already packed sequence with thousands of giant ants added. There was also a real story problem.
With the Avengers Compound destroyed, Scott has little time to pause and deal with an ant invasion. He has been caught in the Quantum Realm, so his priority is to join the battle. Returning to his former ant colony and somehow moving thousands of ants to the battlefield would have needed an explanation the movie didn’t have time for.
Pym Particles Created Another Problem
But then there is the biggest logistical problem: Pym Particles. It’s obvious that the Avengers have very few Pym Particles to work with in ‘Endgame’. They play a crucial role in Scott’s plan for the Quantum Realm and the time travel mission.

To make thousands of normal ants into giant warriors would take a ludicrous amount of Pym Particles. It’s at that moment when Marvel likely made the wise call. The final battle already had portals, aliens, sorcerers, Wakandans, Ravagers, and practically every surviving hero in the MCU.
If they had thrown a huge army of ants into the middle of all that, it could have turned this scene from awesome to absolutely nuts. Still, it’s disappointing to know that we could have watched thousands of giant ants charging into battle alongside the Avengers.
