‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Post-Credits Scene Explained: The Battleworld Is Coming

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is gearing up for its completely new era and ‘Captain America: Brave New World‘ just set the stage in a major way. Anthony Mackie’s first solo outing as the new Cap ends with a victory.

However, the post-credits scene makes it clear that this was just the calm before the storm. Marvel fans have been waiting for clues about the future of the MCU, and they just got a big one.

The post-credit scene for ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ teases multiversal chaos, the arrival of Battleworld, and the biggest crossover event the franchise has ever seen. After successfully preventing Samuel Sterns, a.k.a. The Leader, from ruining President Thaddeus Ross’ legacy, Sam Wilson believes his mission is complete.

However, Marvel loves to remind its heroes that peace is always temporary. The post-credits scene takes us back to the Raft, the high-security prison where Ross voluntarily surrenders himself. Sam pays a visit not to Ross, but to Sterns. “You want to know what’s funny?” Sterns asks, smirking.”I’m not in the mood for your jokes,” Sam replies.

We share the same world, don’t we?” Sterns continues. “It’s coming. I’ve seen it in the probabilities. Seen it plain as day. All you heroes protecting this world do you think you’re the only ones? Do you think this is the only world?” Sterns aren’t just talking nonsense. His message is a clear reference to the upcoming ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, where parallel universes will crash into each other.

The multiverse isn’t a new concept in the MCU. We’ve seen all about it in several of the recent films like ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, ‘Loki’, and ‘The Marvels’. However, Sterns is teasing something far worse. According to him, the events will be an all-out collision of realities that will force heroes from different universes to fight for survival.

In the comics, constant incursions lead to the destruction of the multiverse, leaving only one world behind: Battleworld. This patchwork planet is made up of fragments from various destroyed realities, all ruled by Doctor Doom. Doom has god-like power and the potential to become the ultimate villain.

Additionally, for casual fans, the post-credit scene might’ve felt like the ramblings of a sore loser. However, comic book readers know exactly what this means: the MCU is officially heading toward its most ambitious storyline yet. Moreover, Robert Downey Jr.’s casting as Doom only solidifies his statement.
