One of the strangest moments in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ may have been hiding a much bigger Marvel mystery in plain sight. The film briefly shows Thor holding a seemingly dying Deadpool while crying over him, but the scene never receives a proper explanation.
What If Loki Was Hiding Inside Deadpool?
At first glance, it looks like a bizarre emotional reaction. Why would Thor be devastated over Deadpool, especially when Wade Wilson is notoriously difficult to keep dead? A new theory suggests the scene may have been deliberately misleading, because Thor might not actually be holding Deadpool at all.

The key to the theory is Loki. If Deadpool becomes important to the multiverse’s future, it would make sense for someone to try to eliminate him before he can play his part. Loki could potentially protect Wade by taking his appearance and becoming the target himself.
That would make the mysterious scene much more tragic. Loki could put himself in danger to protect Deadpool. If Doctor Doom has somehow stripped Loki of his connection to time manipulation by this point, Loki could be far more vulnerable than he was at the end of Loki.
Thor eventually finds the body and loses it. From his perspective, his brother appears to be dead. And suddenly, those tears make a lot more sense.
Thor May Have Been Mourning Loki All Along
The emotional weight of the scene would completely change if Thor believed he was holding Deadpool but was actually holding Loki. It would also explain why the footage feels so strangely disconnected from everything established about Deadpool.

The scene may not have been designed to show Wade’s future death at all. It could have been a carefully hidden piece of Loki’s ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ storyline. The biggest twist would come later: Loki survived.
That would turn Thor’s grief into another piece of misdirection, while giving Loki a potentially huge role in the coming multiversal conflict. Of course, this remains a theory, and Marvel could ultimately give the scene a completely different explanation.
But if ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ was quietly teasing Loki’s return, that emotional image of Thor holding “Deadpool” suddenly becomes much more interesting. Maybe Thor wasn’t crying for Wade. Maybe he was crying for his brother.
