Hayley Atwell first appeared in ‘Captain America: The First Avenger‘ as Margaret Elizabeth (Peggy) Carter. Atwell later reprised the same role again in various Captain America films including, ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’.
Even though her character died in ‘Captain America: Civil War’, she subsequently continued to appear in Marvel films. Atwell recently made an appearance in ‘Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness’, however, this time she didn’t like her role as Peggy and rather found it frustrating, because she was cut in two with her own shield.
Hailey Disagrees With Peggy’s In Doctor Strange
During a podcast with Happy Sad Confused hosted by Josh Horowitz, Hayley Atwell discussed her various roles in the movies, including Peggy. She reprised the role in Marvel’s ‘Doctor Strange: Multiverse Of Madness’, and in this different universe, she took the super-soldier serum instead of Steve Rogers and went on to be called Captain Carter.
As the story took place in a different universe, there were a lot of possibilities for the character development of Peggy but the narrative took an awful turn according to Atwell. She wasn’t happy about the fate of Peggy.
She was cut into half from her shield after the very famous dialogue of Captain America: “I could do this all day.” And she added her lines to it by saying: “When she’s like, ‘I could do this all day’ and then followed by she’s immediately cut in half by a Frisbee. And the audience being like, ‘She can’t do it all day. Apparently you can’t, so, egg on your face.“

“Wholesome And Bittersweet”: Atwell On Her Role In ‘Avengers Endgame’
Even though Atwell didn’t like the role of Peggy in ‘Doctor Strange: Multiverse Of Madness’, she did like her cameo in ‘Avengers: Endgame’. When Captain America goes back in the past and meets her, that scene brings tears to the eyes of many. Similarly, Atwell Found That role “wholesome and Bittersweet”.
In another interview, Atwell also said that she feels ‘Fulfilled’ with the perfect ending of the love story of Peggy Carter and Steve Rogers in Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Endgame.’
Their love story is tragic as Captain America is presumed dead after he crashes his plane in the Arctic and misses the chance to be with the love of his life. But “All is well that ends well”, as he was able to be with her in his original timeline.
