“He Could Be A Good Young Version”: Hugh Jackman Wanted This DC Actor To Play Wolverine After His Retirement

Seven years after ‘Logan‘, what seemed to be Hugh Jackman‘s retirement from Wolverine, the Australian actor has once again returned to his iconic role for ‘Deadpool 3‘. After extensive training and a strict diet, Jackman dropped his workout regime on his Instagram page but this might be the last time his claws come out.

‘Deadpool 3’ will mark X-Men’s official entry into the MCU alongside Ryan Reynolds in the titular role. But now the Wolverine star wants to retire from the superhero franchise, with many rumored potential actors taking up the mantle.

When an actor has played a role for several years, it is almost impossible to replace him with another actor. The same thing is rumored to be going on with Hugh Jackman, with other many actors mentioned as prospects for the next version of Wolverine. But Jackman only wanted the late Heath Ledger, known for his iconic portrayal of Joker to play the young Wolverine.

During a recent conversation in an exclusive X-Men: Days of Future Past interview Jackman expressed his choice of who would be appropriate to replace him as Wolverine. The actor said, “Originally, when I played it first, when he was alive God rest his soul, I thought Heath Ledger could be a good young version of Wolverine.” The actor also admitted that he would feel uncomfortable if he saw someone else play the part he alone owned for two decades now. Jackman said, “It would be a little weird seeing someone else as Wolverine. I know it’s going to happen.”

After 2017’s ‘Logan‘, Hugh Jackman planned a peaceful retirement from the genre, hanging up his claws for good. Because of the fans’ demand to bring him back, and with Marvel Studios finally having the opportunity to pair him up with Deadpool, the actor was tempted to reprise the role for one last time.

During an interview with The Guardian Jackman revealed his reason for his comeback, he said, “When people would ask me to reprise the role – including Ryan, every five seconds – I was like: I’m done. I just wanted to do it, and I felt it in my gut. I get to punch the s—t out of Ryan Reynolds every day.”

The events of ‘Logan‘ finally gave a satisfying conclusion to the story of the brooding mutant. In his interview with Sirius XM, Jackman said, “It’s all because of this device they have in the Marvel world of moving around timelines. Now we can go back because, you know, it’s science. So, I don’t have to screw with the Logan timeline, which was important to me. And I think probably to the fans too.”
