In ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, the X-Men are about to face the same battlefield as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, and fans are looking forward to seeing how Professor X, Magneto, Cyclops, Gambit, Nightcrawler, Mystique and Beast will do in the battle against Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.
However, if Marvel takes one of its more recent comic book concepts, the mutants may be at a crippling disadvantage before the battle even starts.
Doctor Doom Doesn’t Need To Beat The X-Men In A Traditional Fight
Recent trailers and footage have already teased Doom commanding Sentinels against the assembled heroes. Those giant machines are iconic X-Men villains, but comic history tells us that they aren’t necessarily the most formidable weapon of Victor Von Doom’s.

Marvel’s One World Under Doom comic event was a great illustration of the sheer power Doom can be when combined with his unmatched intellect and magic. Doom did not bother to fight the X-Men, but instead targeted their source of power.
Using powerful magic, Victor temporarily suppressed the mutants’ X-genes, stripping them of their abilities in an instant. It wasn’t a matter of destroying the X-Men; it was a matter of proving complete control. Their powers were there, but because Doom allowed them to be there, the message was chilling.
That moment completely shifted the balance of power and showed why Doom is unlike almost any villain the heroes have faced. He is not the man to win by force. He wants his enemies to know that they are already beaten.
MCU Could Borrow This Brutal Strategy
‘Avengers: Doomsday’ will feature Doom as a scientist and a very powerful wizard, so it’s safe to assume that Marvel could do something similar for the big screen. While Sentinels can provide some great action, without the X-Men’s powers, the stakes would be raised, and Doom would be an even bigger threat.

It would also make sense why there are so many strong heroes brought together for one enemy. If Magneto loses control over metal or Professor X is cut off from his telepathy, the battle changes completely. Suddenly, experience and teamwork become just as important as superpowers.
It’s not clear whether Marvel is going to take this exact route, but the comics have already proven that Doctor Doom doesn’t need an army to defeat the X-Men. Sometimes, the most terrifying display of power isn’t defeating your opponents in combat; it’s proving they never had a chance to fight back in the first place.
