The theory also sheds new light on Bill Metzger’s research. He seems to have a surprising knowledge of unusual genetic powers throughout the entire ‘Brand New Day’. Rather than trying to create mutants, perhaps he had already uncovered evidence that they existed.

Marvel has never officially confirmed that mutants existed on Earth-616 before the events of the series, nor has it officially explained the origin of Jean Grey. Still, the omission of this key detail seems intentional. If that’s the case here, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ may have quietly planted one of the most important seeds for the MCU’s future.
