‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ may have arrived as a grounded new chapter for Peter Parker, but reports suggest the film almost took a dramatically different direction.
Rather than Peter’s life after ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, the film was originally planned to be a big crossover between the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Sony’s Spider-Man Universe.
‘Brand New Day’s Reported Original Plan Featured Knull, Venom, and Three Spider-Men
Originally, Sony planned to make ‘Brand New Day’ about the Venom symbiote that was seen in ‘No Way Home’. Peter Parker would have bonded with the alien suit, providing the fans with the much-awaited black suit story in live-action. The announced plans did not end there.

The god of the symbiotes, Knull, was supposed to be the main antagonist, while there were several symbiotes in the film. The film was also rumored to reunite Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Men, and Michael Keaton’s Vulture would carry the Morbius story forward that was left at the end of the film.
The project was said to be a crossover between the MCU and Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, to create a single large-scale event. It sounds pretty cool to those who enjoy Spider-Man’s interstellar escapades. However, it could also have overshadowed Peter Parker’s personal arc from the heartfelt conclusion of ‘No Way Home’.
Marvel Chose Peter’s Story First
It was apparently a very different approach that Marvel Studios wanted. Instead of going back to another multiversal show, the studio decided to delve into Peter’s new reality: life without MJ, Ned, and Aunt May. That vision eventually became the heart of ‘Brand New Day’.

Although the film features characters like Hulk, Jean Grey, and the Punisher, they do not take the place of Peter’s story. The outcome is a compromise between two creative philosophies. Sony did get some big cameos from Marvel, and Marvel Studios kept the street-level feel that many fans were hoping for after ‘No Way Home’.
It’s interesting to consider what could have happened. A symbiote invasion, Knull, and three Spider-Men would have created an unforgettable blockbuster, but Marvel’s reported decision ensured that Peter Parker remained the true focus. After years of universe-ending threats, giving Spider-Man room to stand on his own again may have been exactly what the character needed.
