How Marvel Intends To Conclude The Kang Storyline In ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Using Doctor Doom

Marvel Studios with its recent announcements has made it clear that they’re done with the Kang the Conqueror storyline. Initially meant to be the overarching villain of the Multiverse Saga, Kang’s reign is being cut short due to both underwhelming audience reception and off-screen controversies.

The twist? Instead of Kang continuing as the MCU’s ultimate threat, the upcoming film will introduce Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom. Additionally, Doom is rumored to be the one to kill Kang and reshape the multiverse under his iron rule.

According to insider Jeff Sneider on The Hot Mic, Doctor Doom’s involvement isn’t just as another villain, he sees himself as the savior of the multiverse. Marvel’s original plan was to have Kang as the MCU’s next Thanos-level threat, spanning multiple films. This includes plans for ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’ and ‘Secret Wars’.

However, after the lukewarm reception of the films with Kang and the legal issues surrounding Jonathan Majors, the studio had to pivot. Instead of a Kang-centric saga, Marvel is shifting focus to Victor Von Doom. Now, Sneider reveals that Doom will be the one to take down Kang and the Council of Kangs.

This will bring an unexpected but fitting resolution to the multiversal chaos. “In one of the Avengers movies, probably Doomsday, I’ve heard that Doctor Doom could be the one who kills him. That makes sense, right?” he said. This shift in focus is a massive shake-up for the MCU. However, it aligns well with Doom’s comic book history.

Spider-Man’s Role Might Be Limited In ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

As ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ gears up for filming in March 2025, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will play an unexpected role in the film. Due to his commitment to Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’, Holland is facing major scheduling conflicts. Now, reports claim that some of his scenes will be filmed using a stunt double.

According to insider Daniel Richtman, while Holland will still be involved, his availability will be limited. This means that certain action-heavy sequences may rely on a stunt double rather than Holland himself. Additionally, this news also suggests that Spider-Man’s role in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ might not be as central.

However, it’s been confirmed that Peter Parker’s personal struggles from ‘No Way Home’ won’t be a major focus in ‘Doomsday‘. Instead, Spider-Man will be laser-focused on his mission. So, this leaves plenty of room for ‘Spider-Man 4’ to dive deeper into Peter’s personal life.
