Marvel Studios may be about to embark on its biggest reset ever, and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ could be the opportunity to push the Marvel Cinematic Universe forward by almost a decade.

The film’s plot is still a mystery, but one possibility is that Marvel could bring in a much older cast of heroes amid the multiverse chaos of ‘Secret Wars’.

It’s not as crazy as it sounds. The MCU has been dealing with multiple timelines, younger characters, and the new addition of the Fantastic Four, and a massive time jump might give Marvel a new beginning to its next saga without having to spend years developing it.

In Marvel Comics, ‘Secret Wars’ is an epic saga that merges aspects of various realities into a world known as Battleworld, the product of the multiverse’s destruction. In the 2015 comic-book story, written by Jonathan Hickman, Doctor Doom becomes the God Emperor Doom over this patchwork reality.

The MCU might borrow from that idea to reinvent its universe after the Multiverse Saga. The Avengers’ victory doesn’t necessarily mean everything is back to normal. However, it could instead create a new reality, with years having passed and the MCU having a new status quo.

If it’s eight to ten years, that would leave Marvel with some breathing room. The newly established characters could develop off-screen, and the franchise could feature familiar characters without having to explain each origin story again. It would also give the MCU a fresh start in a multiverse story that has become increasingly complex over the years.

Franklin Richards And T’Challa II Could Benefit The Most

It’s possible that the biggest winners are Marvel’s younger characters. In the comics, Franklin Richards is the son of Reed Richards and Sue Storm, who has superpowers that can alter realities. An older Franklin could become a significant figure in the next MCU saga, especially if Marvel continues exploring cosmic threats.

Meanwhile, T’Challa II, T’Challa’s son from ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’, will be old enough to take up his father’s mantle. If he did experience a time jump, Marvel would be able to delve into his path to becoming a future Black Panther without having to rush his growth.

Other young heroes might be able to learn from that, and it would be great for Marvel to bring in a new generation of Avengers. Nothing confirms this direction yet, but the idea is compelling.
