Thanos once walked into Wakanda carrying five Infinity Stones, convinced that nothing in the universe could stand in his way. Then ‘What If…?’ Season 1 showed audiences an alternate reality where Infinity Ultron sliced through the Mad Titan almost instantly after Vision’s body gave him access to the Mind Stone.

It was a brutal reminder of just how terrifying Ultron becomes when he gets his hands on a powerful body. Now, with Ultron back in the spotlight in ‘VisionQuest’ Marvel has an opportunity to explore another frightening possibility: what happens if Ultron abandons Vision and takes control of Jim Hammond, the original Human Torch?

In ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’, Ultron attempted to create a superior body using vibranium, believing that a synthetic form would allow him to evolve beyond his original limitations. However, the Avengers stopped him before he could fully realize his plans.

Vision ultimately emerged from that failed experiment, combining vibranium, advanced artificial intelligence, and the Mind Stone. But ‘What If…?’ explored what could have happened if Ultron had successfully occupied that body instead.

After gaining the Mind Stone, he defeated Thanos almost effortlessly and then eliminated life across Earth before expanding his campaign throughout the cosmos. Eventually, he discovered the multiverse and became powerful enough to challenge cosmic beings.

That version of Ultron demonstrated that his greatest advantage isn’t simply physical strength. It’s his ability to combine intelligence, technology, and overwhelming power without the moral limitations that hold heroes back.

Jim Hammond presents an interesting possibility. Introduced in Marvel Comics in 1939, the original Human Torch was an android created by scientist Phineas Horton. Unlike the flaming Fantastic Four member Johnny Storm, Hammond is a synthetic human whose body can generate and control intense flames.

If Ultron could take control of Hammond’s body, he might gain access to a completely different set of abilities. Imagine an advanced AI combining its tactical intelligence with a body capable of generating devastating heat and fire.

Depending on how the MCU adapts Hammond’s powers, that combination could make Ultron a threat even without the Mind Stone. The show’s exploration of artificial intelligence and the introduction of classic Marvel technology make the theory fascinating.

If Ultron finds a way to evolve beyond Vision, the real question isn’t whether he can become more powerful. It’s whether anyone could stop him once he does.
