Marvel’s ‘VisionQuest’ could be about much more than White Vision trying to recover his identity. The show could delve into one of the most disturbing questions in the MCU: What if someone has all your memories but no emotions?

Following the events of ‘WandaVision’, White Vision is left with the original Vision’s memories, but this doesn’t always mean that he’s regaining the personality that made the Avenger so special. He recalls his life, his relationship with Wanda Maximoff, and his sacrifice in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’. But it’s not the same.

In ‘WandaVision’, the original Vision and White Vision battled in a philosophical struggle over identity. Instead of killing White Vision, Vision touched his forehead to give his opponent his memories. Then white Vision flew away, with his future being uncertain.

That moment presented an intriguing situation. He now has the experiences of a man who loved, fought with the Avengers, and was willing to sacrifice himself to save the universe. Those memories were of a Vision whose humanity was formed by his feelings, relationships, and decisions.

Those emotional connections are what could make it difficult for White Vision to grasp the significance of those experiences. That’s much more unsettling than just seeing another strong android battle the Avengers.

Marvel has already explored what happens when artificial intelligence develops its own understanding of humanity through Ultron. Tony Stark and Bruce Banner developed Ultron to defend Earth, but Ultron ultimately concluded that humanity itself was the problem.

White Vision is an interesting contrast. He doesn’t start out hating humanity, unlike Ultron. Instead, he remembers feeling concerned about people but not understanding why.

In the thematic trilogy that includes ‘WandaVision’ and ‘Agatha All Along’, ‘VisionQuest’ might investigate the question of whether emotions are necessary to identity or just a biological constraint that an AI can transcend.

The series also explores if Vision can reconnect with Wanda, as their romance was part of a different version of him that no longer exists. The most important question isn’t whether White Vision can be the original Vision. It’s whether he can choose to embrace humanity even if he doesn’t understand it fully.
