Marvel fans may have spotted something unusual in the latest ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ promo featuring Steve Rogers and Thor. The scene looks like a fun throwback to ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ but the characters’ reactions have raised a theory that could make the moment much more important than it looks.
Why Thor And Steve’s Reactions Feel Strange

In the promo, Steve summons Mjolnir and asks Thor whether it bothers him. Thor responds, “You know it does.” The exchange seems like banter, but there’s something about it that doesn’t sound right. What if the man in front of Thor wasn’t actually Steve Rogers, but Loki.
One of the best moments of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ was when Steve proved himself worthy of Mjolnir. Thor was understandably surprised, but he didn’t appear resentful. His response demonstrated his respect for Steve, if anything.
Likewise, Steve has never been the kind of person to deliberately provoke his friends over something like this. His question in the promo is very pointed, and Thor’s answer feels off. But, of course, the conversation could just be a cozy friendship act by Marvel.
Moreover, the MCU has a history of giving us seemingly innocuous moments to uncover larger truths. That raises the question of whether the exchange is up to something more nefarious.
Is Loki Going To Sacrifice Himself Again?

Loki as Steve could be the reason for the interaction being a little out of character. The God of Mischief has played many tricks on his enemies and used deceptions to throw things off balance, so the appearance of Captain America could be a good way to throw off the enemy or trick Doctor Doom into a trap.

The theory gets even more interesting when Thor’s frustration is added in. Thor is familiar with Loki’s knack for taking risks. In the Disney+ series, Loki eventually becomes responsible for the survival of the multiverse, and becomes a self-sacrificing hero who accepts a burden too great for any one person.
If he finds out that his brother is preparing to sacrifice himself again, his anger might be behind his words. Maybe Thor isn’t upset about Steve wielding Mjolnir at all. Maybe he’s angry because he knows what Loki might do.
