Marvel’s ‘Eternals‘ made a record by being the lowest-rated Marvel film when it was released, with only a score of 47% on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite the star cast including Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Brian Tyree Henry, and Kumail Nanjiani, the film failed to impress the audience.
Chloe Zhao’s ‘Eternals’ received abysmal reviews from the fans and to extreme levels, pushing Nanjiani to the extent that the actor was forced to seek counseling. He recently opened up about that phase.

Kumail Najiani Went For Counselling After ‘Eternals’ Failed Miserably
During a recent appearance on a podcast, ‘Inside of You with Michale Rosenbaum‘, Kumail Najiani who embodied Kingo on ‘Eternals’, confessed that the negative reviews of the film brutally affected his mental health, pushing him to seek counseling. The actor also revealed that he was aware of the negative comments and harsh criticism as he dove too deep into the reviewing process.
Najiani further added, “It was really, really hard because Marvel thought that movie was going to be really, really well reviewed, so they lifted the embargo early and put it in some fancy movie festivals and they sent us on a big global tour to promote the movie right as the embargo lifted.”
The ‘Silicon Valley’ star also said that the failure of the film not only took a toll on his mental health but also dragged his wife, Emily V. Gordon, into this chaotic mess. Najiani said, “I think there was some weird soup in the atmosphere for why that movie got slammed so much, and I think not much of it has to do with the actual quality of the movie. It was really hard, and that was when I thought it was unfair to me and unfair to my wife Emily, and I can’t approach my work this way anymore. Some s*** has to change, so I started counseling. I still talk to my therapist about that.”

Will Kingo Have A Future In The Marvel Cinematic Universe?
The negative review of ‘Eternals’ pushed Kumail Najiani to seek therapy. As the film took a toll on the actor’s mental health, there is hardly any possibility of Najiani reprising his role as Kingo in future projects. During the podcast, the actor himself sounded doubtful about his character’s future saying he is “completely in the dark.”
‘Eternals’ failed mainly because of two reasons. The first is the dull action sequence and poor tasteless graphics. The other is that the film made no effort to explore the characters, as it introduced multiple characters together. Despite being connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the fans felt a sense of disconnect from the franchise. Although the film announced its return in its post-credits scene, Marvel has not officially revealed any updates about ‘Eternals’ sequel as of now.
