‘Guardians of the Galaxy 3‘ was the last project headed by James Gunn after he left to join the rival comic studio DCU. The third installment of the film revealed the secret protagonist, Rocket Racoon around whom the third part revolved around. Gunn’s last project became Marvel’s best film.
The film broke many Marvel records including the usage of the first-ever f-bomb. DC Studios co-CEO and director James Gunn explained how the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first f-bomb came to be.
James Gunn Reveals The F-Bomb Idea Was Given By Him
After many Marvel movies and TV shows, the first f-bomb was dropped in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 3’. Chris Pratt‘s Star-Lord finally got to say the curse word in the last Guardians entry. He blurts it out when Nebula can’t figure out how to open a car door, screaming at her “open the f**king door.”
A fan asked James Gunn on the social media platform Threads if he was surprised Marvel didn’t give Samuel L Jackson the first MCU f-bomb. Gunn made clear it was his own initiative that led to the scene. He replied, “Marvel didn’t give anyone the first f**k. I took it. If they had pushed back I would have fought it tooth and nail but they were cool and did not”. Gunn also explained that the swear seemingly came pretty naturally and didn’t require any reshoots. “He (Chris Pratt) only said it once,” Gunn added in a follow-up post.

How Did Kevin Feige React To Marvel’s First F-Bomb?
As planting the f-bomb was solely James Gunn’s idea, he revealed what Kevin Feige had to say about it. Gunn went on to say that the MCU boss revealed to Gunn that the Russo Brothers had put an f-bomb in an early cut of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ but removed it because they didn’t want it to be their legacy. The DC owner joked that he had no problem with it, though, which Feige also found funny.
Gunn also added that they ended up keeping the line in the film but he was concerned it would be the first time Disney would have to ask him to remove something. Gunn said, “We put it in the cut and it was just so damn funny. And I was like ‘Oh man, Disney is going to make me take this out, aren’t they? They’ve never made me do anything. And I’m like, ‘This is the first time they’re gonna make me do something, and I’m going to be bummed out.”
