Is Marvel Really Scrapping ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty After Jonathan Majors Guilty Charges?

This is a major victory for the #MeToo movement and a growing concern for Marvel Studios as Jonathan Majors, who plays the antagonist, Kang The Conqueror, has been found guilty of domestic assault and harassment of his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, by the Manhattan jury. It all started in March 2023, when Jonathan was arrested after assaulting Grace in New York.

Jonathan Majors filed a cross-complaint against Grace Jabbari for assault and being the aggressor. Since then, the case has taken place, as it was concluded with Majors getting charged with two charges of assault in the third degree and harassment. Due to his arrest, his career has faced a major blow. He was featured on the recent Marvel show ‘Loki’, leading up to the first franchise film for Kang the Conqueror. While Marvel has fired the actor, they have decided to go ahead with it without Majors.

It has been a field day for superhero films. First, many of the films, both from MCEU and DCEU, were disasters compared to past films. Second, the actors involved in the projects have been involved in several criminal lawsuits. The superhero fatigue mixed with actors’ lawsuits has put the studios in a worrisome place. The latest is that of Jonathan Majors’ assault case.

Jonathan Majors was reaching the envil of success after featuring in the indie film ‘The Last Black Man In California’. He was all set to get his first feature franchise film in Marvel with ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’. But, after getting charged as guilty in the domestic assault trial, Majors has been dropped by Marvel, leaving phase five’s most important film’s future bleak.

Recently, Marvel had to let go of the ‘Avengers 5’ director, Destin Daniel Cretton. They welcomed Michael Waldron, the screenwriter, who worked on films like ‘Loki’ and ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’. As per The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel will move forward with the film. The question now remains: who will be recast after Jonathan’s departure?

In March 2023, Jonathan Majors was arrested for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari after they got into a brawl in Manhattan. Grace accused Majors of fracturing her finger while twisting her right arm after she tried to check whom the actor was messaging as the text read, “Wish I was kissing you right now?” He also struck her ear.

Jonathan Majors’ lawyer claimed that Grace Jabbari was going through an “emotional crisis,” due to which she was taken to a hospital; hence, Majors was arrested. Grace was also arrested in October 2023. It happened after two precincts “found probable cause to arrest.”
