Jonathan Majors was positioned to be the next major villain in the MCU and become a looming presence across multiple films leading up to ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’. However, after being found guilty of third-degree assault and second-degree harassment in December 2023, his career took a massive hit.
Marvel Studios quickly distanced itself from the actor leaving the future of Kang uncertain. Even as Majors works to rehabilitate his public image, Marvel appears to have moved on. Moreover, rumors of Kevin Feige considering his return were nothing more than speculation. However, as Majors exits, another familiar face, Robert Downey Jr. is making a villainous comeback as Doctor Doom.

Introduction Robert Downey Jr’s Dr Doom was a monumental shift in the MCU. For years, Kang was set up as the next “Thanos-level” threat. However, after ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ underperformed at the box office, and Majors’ legal troubles, Marvel decided to pivot.

Victor Von Doom, one of the greatest villains in comic book history, is now expected to take center stage as the next major antagonist. Unsurprisingly, Jonathan Majors has strong feelings about being replaced. In a candid moment caught by TMZ, Majors didn’t hide his emotions when asked about Downey Jr. taking over.
“Yeah, heartbroken. Of course,” he admitted. “I love Kang. Doctor Doom is wicked, though.” When asked if he thought it was fair that Downey Jr. was given another chance while he himself was cast aside, Majors responded carefully but pointedly. “I think it’s fair that Mr. Downey is being and has been greeted with patience and curiosity and love. I didn’t really get that.”
Moreover, despite his disappointment, Majors remains hopeful. When asked if he’d return as Kang if given the chance, he didn’t hesitate. “Hell yeah! Hell yeah! I love him. I love Kang. If that’s what the fans want, and that’s what Marvel wants, then let’s roll. Hell yeah.” However, sadly for the actor and fans, Marvel doesn’t seem to be looking back.
