Martin Freeman discusses his rumored return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in ‘Secret Invasion‘, after being missing from the series for over five years as Everett K. Ross, the Deputy Task Force Commander of the Joint Counterterrorism Centre. The character was working with the Tony Stark team to bring in Bucky Barnes in ‘Captain America: Civil War‘.
When Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther meets Ulysses Klaue during a black-market weaponry trade, Ross is transported back to Wakanda for medical care and aids the team’s struggle against Killmonger. Ross would return in ‘Black Panther’ a few years later.
Martin Freeman Comments On His MCU Return
Speaking to the Radio Times for the third season of ‘Breeders‘, Martin Freeman hinted at a possible return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in ‘Secret Invasion‘. At one point, Freeman seemed to confirm his role as Ross, which Samuel L. Jackson had already said will feature in the show.
He stated, “Yeah – I think that’s kosher information, isn’t it? In order not to embarrass Samuel, I will say… I’m not gonna say he’s got that totally wrong and he’s thinking of Sam Rockwell. So yes, I may very well be [appearing].”
Secret Invasion star Samuel L. Jackson first mentioned actor Martin Freeman at a live stage discussion in March, praising both Freeman and ‘Black Panther‘ actress Olivia Colman for their efforts on ‘Secret Invasion‘.
Since Kevin Feige just said the program would investigate both the Blip and its aftermath, it will be intriguing to see if Ross will appear in both timelines or just one. As Ross has not been in the MCU since ‘Black Panther‘, no mention has been made of whether he survived or was taken away for five years.
‘Secret Invasion’ Is MCU’s Most Anticipated Show
One of the most eagerly anticipated new projects of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the upcoming Disney+ series ‘Secret Invasion‘, which promises the return of Nick Fury. It was in ‘Spider-Man: Far from Home‘ post-credits sequence where Talos and Soren were shown to be impersonating Fury and Maria Hill that he was last seen in public.
On a Skrull spaceship on another planet, barefoot and carefree, Iron Man was pictured enjoying a faux tropical beach.
Fury’s post-‘Avengers: Endgame‘ comeback has been talked about for years, and this cliffhanger is the first taste of what ‘Secret Invasion‘ may look like.
