Marvel has introduced many of its popular characters and teams through its Disney+ television shows. However, fans have long wondered why we haven’t seen the ultimate superhero team of ‘The Avengers’ unite on the small screen.
In a new interview, a high-ranking Marvel Studios executive explained their reasoning for keeping the Avengers confined to the big screen. Brad Winderbaum, Head of Marvel Streaming, sat down to discuss the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe following the upcoming two-part ‘Avengers‘ saga conclusion. When asked about the rumblings of an Avengers television series, Winderbaum shot down the idea and provided insight into their thinking.
‘The Avengers’ Narratives Are Not Feasible for Television
In an interview with CinemaBlend, Brad Winderbaum stated that financially, a full-fledged Avengers television show wouldn’t make sense. He said, “I think the Avengers are about, there came a day when Earth’s Mightiest Heroes had to assemble. In a feature film, which is a statement piece, it makes sense that there’s an event that galvanizes them all“.

According to the executive, for an ongoing television series, “it becomes more of a challenge to have, ‘There came a day’ every day“. The pattern of the team coming together for grave threats and then going their separate ways wouldn’t translate well to the long-form storytelling of television.
Avengers’ Grand Narratives Won’t Fit The Television Style
In Brad Winderbaum’s opinion, films and comics provide a wider platform for the show, while TV series would not be able to provide that premise. “In the comics, you can do it. It’s the Marvel universe, and there’s just spectacular things happening all the time. But if you read the comics, you know that the Avengers really assemble so that they can disassemble, and then assemble again,” he said.
Bringing the stars of the billion-dollar Avengers films together regularly for television would likely be too expensive for any streaming service.

Keeping the Avengers confined to big-screen movies allows their team-ups to maintain that event status and not become just another TV series. It will be interesting to see if individual members like Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk appear together, but fans shouldn’t expect to see the full MCU Avengers team on Disney+ any time soon.
