Marvel Made A Major Change In The ‘Armor Wars’ Project. Here’s How

During the D23 Expo in August, Marvel made a plethora of announcements of new projects. The most significant of them was Don Cheadle’s revival in ‘Armor Wars.’ At the event, Kevin Feige and Don Cheadle announced ‘Armor Wars’ as a six-episode series. However, in an update, the project will be conceived on another medium.

The project was first conceived at Disney’s Investor Day Call. At that time it was not decided whether it would be a feature film or a series. The Expo made it clear that Marvel is planning to create the show for Disney+, but, in a sudden change of circumstances, the ‘Armor Wars’ will have a theatrical release.

The studio has a history of changing the course of a project. The Disney+ series ‘Hawkeye’ was earlier planned to be a feature film, but the executives decided to convert it into a long format. Now, as per reports, the project will be a celluloid experience. As per sources, the studio wanted a perfect medium to tell the story, so they opted for a feature.

Don Cheadle is ready to don the War Machine costume. He will reprise his role as Colonel James “Rhodey” Rhodes. There has been no update about the director to helm the project. It is still in a nascent stage of writing. Don will be reuniting with his ‘Black Monday’ writer Yassir Lester. The comedian will pen the script. The film was to go on the floor in 2023, but the change in the medium will push the project further.

What Is The Story?

The story follows the post-Endgame period in the MCU. According to Disney, it is inspired by classic comics and follows “James Rhodes aka War Machine who must face what happens when Tony Stark’s tech falls into the wrong hands.” If Marvel Studios follow the comic narrative, we may hope for the return of Robert Downey Jr., as Tony Stark.

This can be a possibility because the comic follows the story of Tony Stark finding that someone is selling the prototypes of his suit. So, Don Cheadle’s James Rhodes will be assigned to track the person down and save the world from the malicious utility of Iron Man’s prototype suits.
