Marvel Studios appears to have ambitious plans to expand the Marvel Cinematic Universe with more fan-favorite projects. With ‘Deadpool and Wolverine‘ being a huge critical and financial success against its $200 million budget, the prospect of a sequel feels almost inevitable.

Now, insider reports suggest that Marvel is already in the process of discussing a sequel for the film. Moreover, the conclusion of the film, which left both characters alive, opened up countless narrative possibilities. So, fans’ dreams for a sequel might just come true.

According to an update from industry insider Daniel Richtman (via his Patreon), the studio is reportedly eager to develop a sequel to ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ following the film’s tremendous box-office success. The movie, which united Ryan Reynolds’ snarky Deadpool with Hugh Jackman’s iconic Wolverine, became a huge hit.

It raked in $636.7 million domestically and a staggering $1.33 billion globally, securing its place as the second-highest-grossing movie of 2024. The film also broke significant records. It became the highest-grossing global opening for an R-rated film, overtaking the original ‘Deadpool’ from 2016.

Other accomplishments of this wildly popular superhero team-up include being ranked as the 13th highest-grossing domestic film of all time. Additionally, it also holds several prominent positions within MCU rankings: fifth domestically, tenth internationally, and seventh globally.

While no sequel has been officially confirmed, rumors have gained traction. Reportedly, the sequel would come after the highly anticipated ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’.

Reynolds posted a video to his Instagram Stories that showed him donning his updated Deadpool costume. The clip, set to Rufus Wainwright’s “Oh What a World,” featured Reynolds silently speaking into the camera before revealing a rooftop sleigh with a dark red base fading to white.

The video has unsurprisingly sparked speculation of a Christmas-themed project. Adding further fuel to the rumors, Reynolds previously shared a photo of himself with Blind Al actress Leslie Uggams on a festively decorated set. Fans couldn’t help but notice details like Santa Claus statues.

Additionally, the famous Wolverine popcorn bucket was also spotted in the background. While Marvel Studios has yet to confirm any upcoming Deadpool appearances in live-action, these hints suggest that something exciting is brewing behind the scenes. Moreover, whether this project ties directly into ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ or serves as a standalone holiday treat remains to be seen.
