Marvel Studios could be preparing to take the MCU in a major new direction with Phase 7. Reportedly, the studio is working on a couple of mutant-based projects as well as adding more cosmic mythology to the roster with Nova, Star-Lord, the Eternals, and perhaps the Shi’ar.
If any of these plans are real, then Phase 7 may be the moment Marvel’s mutant and cosmic stories begin to really run on the same grand scale.
Mutants Could Become The Heart Of Phase 7
There are also several mutant films in the works, and Wolverine is rumored to get his own solo film. While the character has already been famously portrayed by Hugh Jackman, a new Wolverine story could establish Marvel’s long-term version of Logan within the MCU.

The larger of the two may be Avengers vs. X-Men, which is said to be a major part of the Phase 7 storyline. There will be several movies before Marvel can develop a relationship and rivalry between the two groups before finally putting them against each other.
The prospect of that is fascinating enough. After years of the MCU’s own heroes battling threats from other universes, a large-scale battle between the MCU’s heroes could be a more personal show. With careful planning, Avengers vs. X-Men may be one of the most defining moments in the franchise.
Nova Could Lead The Cosmic Side
The cosmic corner of the MCU may be just as important. A Nova movie is reportedly in the works, and Nova and Star-Lord may be the main characters in the cosmic tale. The ‘Eternals‘ are also expected to stay relevant, and Marvel will be able to continue exploring the Celestials and bigger mysteries of the universe.

If the Shi’ar are reported to have arrived, it might get even more interesting. They have a strong connection to the X-Men and the Phoenix mythology, which could give them a natural link between Marvel’s mutant and cosmic narratives.
Annihilus is also reportedly being set up as a key antagonist in several cosmic projects. He doesn’t need to be a one-and-done threat, but Marvel can slowly make him a significant one. And if any of this is accurate, Marvel could be building a saga in which mutants, Avengers, and cosmic heroes are all essential parts of the same huge story.
