The MCU has been preparing for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ for a while. However, now Kevin Feige has finally given fans a glimpse.

He revealed that those films are not the end of the story, but rather the start of something even greater. Feige is more interested in the future than just the crossover show, as he announced that Marvel’s much-anticipated X-Men reboot will follow ‘Secret Wars’.

The news is particularly significant for longtime Marvel fans. Before the MCU, the X-Men were a part of what shaped modern superhero cinema, and Feige himself was involved in the original X-Men movies early in his career. Now, years after the speculation that Disney had bought 20th Century Fox, he states that it’s a dream come true.

“I can’t wait for all of you to see ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, we have a movie after that called ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, and after that the mutants are coming and the X-Men are coming, and that’s been a dream of mine. I started with the X-Men many, many years ago, and to bring a new version into the MCU is going to be very exciting,” he shared at the Shanghai Expo.

As audiences wait for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, Feige hinted that those movies will be a stepping stone to Marvel’s future, not the end. This is a crucial time for Marvel. Rather than resurrecting old characters from Fox’s X-Men universe, Marvel seems intent on introducing a new era.

It also suggests that ‘Secret Wars’ will change the franchise in ways that will obviously make room for characters such as Cyclops, Storm, Jean Grey, and Professor X to play a more prominent role in a new era. The future is looking brighter for fans who’ve been hoping for the X-Men to become regular members of the MCU.

Feige also revealed what he’s most excited about with ‘Doomsday‘, the unexpected pairings. He said that Marvel’s creative vision is “strange alchemy,” pairing characters who wouldn’t normally get along together and seeing them work together for a common good.

“That’s what Marvel’s all about, it’s assembling heroes that might not get along and forcing them to do what’s best for the world. Seeing the X-Men, the Avengers, the New Avengers, and the Fantastic Four together is a dream I never thought would come true,” he explained.

That will be on full display as the Avengers, Fantastic Four, New Avengers, and X-Men all start sharing the same cinematic universe. It’s the type of crossover comic that readers have been dreaming of for years, but never thought they’d see on screen.

While Marvel’s Multiverse Saga looks set for its biggest moment yet, it seems the studio is already looking past the finish line with Feige’s latest comments. ‘Secret Wars’ may be the end of one story. However, it will also be the beginning of another exciting chapter for the X-Men.
