Robert Downey Jr. is solely responsible for a successful jumpstart of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. 2008’s ‘Iron Man‘ began a pivotal and successful series of Marvel films at the box office and consisted of 33 films under the belt.
From the heroes outside the universe, heroes in suits and capes to a cyborg raccoon and talking tree, the MCU adapted the storylines from Marvel Comics, staying true to the source material as much as possible. However, there is only one film that made up the top of the list of the Avengers cast members.
Robert Downey Jr. Reveals His Favorite Marvel Film
The ‘Oppenheimer’ star embodied the role of Tony Stark, a billionaire, a playboy, and a hero who sacrificed his life in ‘Avengers: Endgame‘, completing his developed character arc. After playing Iron Man in 10 films, it is obvious that Robert Downey Jr.’s ideal Marvel film is the one in which he starred. However, to everyone’s surprise, the actor’s best pick for Marvel film was ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’.
Downey Jr. said, “Galaxy in some ways is the best Marvel movie ever. And it’s odd for someone with — on occasion — an ego the size of mine to actually say that.” He had one of the most memorable and hilarious run-ins with the Guardians of the Galaxy on Titan in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and all his paper football match with Nebula in ‘Avengers: Endgame’. It is a known fact that Tony Stark is not a team player and often is condescending to the Avengers, let alone the Guardians of the Galaxy team. Even though the team was quite welcoming to Thor, they might have a hard time partnering up with Tony Stark.

How ‘Avengers’ Cast Feels About ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy‘
‘MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios‘ documents the favorite Marvel film of the ‘Avengers‘ actors. The authors of the book – Dave Gonzales, Joanna Robinson, and Gavin Edward -asked the MCU stars which film they thought featured the MCU’s pivotal moment, and they agreed it had something to do with a quirky movie that starred a talking tree and cyborg raccoon.
Mark Ruffalo, the actor who embodied Hulk said, “Guardians of the Galaxy opened up another door in the Marvel Universe. It could go into space, it could be funny, it could be colorful, it has a style that’s totally disconnected from the rest of the Marvel Universe. That movie did take the MCU to new heights, proving how a good adaptation can popularize a largely unknown Marvel IP.”
The ‘Avengers‘ cast unanimously agreed that ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ is the best thing that ever happened to the MCU including Robert Downey Jr.
