The next massive era of Marvel is officially here, and things are about to get wild. Fans gearing up for the next huge multiversal madness just got their very first look at ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ and it is looking absolutely chaotic.
With Robert Downey Jr. coming back as Doctor Doom, the new trailer teases a level of destruction that could reset everything we’ve seen in the last two decades. Our favorite Avengers are in for the fight of their lives, and it seems like the MCU might never be the same. Here’s what the movie’s first look reveals about Downey’s evil villain.
Doctor Doom’s Unstoppable Power Against Thor

Marvel Studios officially released the first trailer for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ on July 20, bringing back Downey Jr. as the villainous Doctor Doom. The preview quickly shows how unbelievably powerful and destructive this new enemy could be.

The trailer starts with a spine-chilling monologue from Doom while the scene shifts to Professor X struggling to look at what appears to be a catastrophic incursion, leading to the converging and collapsing of two different universes.
“Something’s coming…something we may not be able to deter. Before this day is done, we shall be faced with an unthinkable decision,” Doom says as he probably lands on Earth. The action gets even more interesting as the three most iconic superhero teams gather at the Avengers Tower to prepare for the ultimate battle.
Trying to inspire his allies, Thor gives Captain America (played by Anthony Mackie) and others the harsh reality check. “I’ve fought with many warriors in my time, who were far stronger than all of us put together, and they died,” the God of Thunder says.
“They died facing enemies and threats that scared me far less than this one.” After multiple scenes featuring our favorite heroes from different realms, we see a glimpse of the ultimate showdown between Thor and Doom, where the latter just does the unthinkable.
In his absolute display of power, Downey’s antagonist goes head-to-head with Thor, easily stopping the full-blown hit of the Stormbreaker—a feat even Thanos barely survived in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ (2018). It just shows that defeating Doom will take more than just all superheroes coming together.
Multiverse Crossover Of Superheroes As Doom Strikes

It is quite a power play to bring back Downey Jr. in such a role, as he launched the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe as Tony Stark/Iron Man. Traditionally written as the main nemesis of the Fantastic Four, Doom is one of the most cunning and ruthless minds in all of comic stories.

The movie’s logline reflects the same, promising the devastation the villain could cause. “Beloved heroes from three distinct universes will be set on a deadly collision course and face an existential threat unlike anything they’ve ever encountered,” it reads.
In the original comic books, Doom skillfully uses both magic and science, which allows him to destroy gods such as Thor easily. Many believe that Downey’s version has managed to harness the reality-warping powers of Franklin Richards, based on an end-credits scene from ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps.’
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, the superhero film includes an incredible crossover of the Avengers and X-Men superheroes, and the comeback of Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), who proves to be worthy again by picking up Mjolnir while being challenged by Chris Hemsworth‘s Thor.
The movie cast also includes Paul Rudd, Pedro Pascal, Florence Pugh, Patrick Stewart, among others. The movie will hit theaters on December 18, with ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ slated to arrive a year later.
