Doctor Strange being on Doctor Doom’s side would be one of the most surprising scenes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After years of protecting reality and leading Earth’s heroes through multiversal crises, seeing Stephen Strange apparently serve Doom would leave fans questioning everything.
However, if that is the case in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ or ‘Secret Wars’, it might not be considered a betrayal. Rather, Strange might be playing a risky long game, gaining Doom’s confidence and finding the right moment to neutralize him.
Strange Could Be On A Secret Mission Against Doom Instead Of A Betrayal

Doctor Strange isn’t someone who would hesitate to make impossible decisions when it comes to protecting the greater good. He’s been known to take a short-term loss for a long-term gain.

From handing over the Time Stone to Thanos to casting the memory spell in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, he makes hard decisions all the time. The notion that Strange is pretending to serve Doom is, for a change, quite plausible given his history.
If Doom is strong enough to change reality, it might not be possible to stand up to him openly. Staying close to the ruler might give Strange with information, allies, and opportunities that no resistance fighter on the outside could gain. Instead of being a villain, Strange may be on his most dangerous mission yet, convincing Doom that he’s loyal, and waiting for the right moment to strike.
Benedict Cumberbatch Was Previously Rumored To Play Boris

The speculation doesn’t stop there, either, as there were earlier rumors that Benedict Cumberbatch might play Boris, who is closely connected to Doctor Doom in the Marvel Comics universe. Those reports have given rise to speculation that Cumberbatch’s character could become very involved in Doom’s story.

None of these reports has been confirmed by Marvel Studios, and there is no official confirmation that Cumberbatch will be playing Doom or Boris. Still, the theories continue to resonate because they align with Strange’s established willingness to sacrifice his own reputation if it means saving countless lives.
But if Doom is indeed the ultimate villain for the MCU, then defeating him isn’t going to be as easy as it sounds. It could require deception, patience, and someone capable of thinking several moves ahead. If true, it would be one of the most interesting character arcs in the franchise, not one of betrayal, but of sacrifice, strategy, and the hope of saving what remains of reality.
