Ever since ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ left behind a piece of Venom’s symbiote in the Marvel universe, fans have been waiting for a chance to see Venom and Tom Holland’s Peter Parker meet. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ was the ideal opportunity for many.
The new trailers, however, indicate that the film is taking a different turn, and that might be the best one Marvel could have made.
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Already Has Plenty On Its Plate

It seems that Peter Parker’s next outing is stuffed with big storylines. He still has to cope with the emotional impact of ‘No Way Home’ in a world where no one knows who he is. Meanwhile, he’s attempting to get in touch with MJ and Ned, and juggling his duties as Spider-Man.

This is just the beginning of the difficulties. The film also features appearances from characters like the Punisher and Hulk, while introducing a mysterious new threat that seems connected to strange changes happening within Peter himself.
Throw in the likes of Scorpion and Tombstone, and it’s no wonder that Marvel might be letting the symbiote saga sit on the shelf for the time being. Sometimes, bigger isn’t better.
The most common complaint against previous Spider-Man movies was that they attempted to cram too many plots into the movies. Even though there were some great ideas in ‘Spider-Man 3’ and ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’, they were both very crowded. Marvel seems to be making an effort not to repeat the error.
The Symbiote Story Deserves Its Own Spotlight

There’s another reason why it makes sense to wait until later to do the symbiote arc: it’s just too important to rush. One of the most popular stories in Spider-Man history is the black suit saga. It fundamentally changes Peter Parker, his morality, and eventually leads to the rise of Venom.

It’s not a story that should be crammed in between several villains, emotional reunions, and bigger MCU ties. Waiting also makes the story fresher. The black suit storyline has already been seen in Sam Raimi’s ‘Spider-Man 3’.
Having more time to explore that idea before the MCU does could make it feel more like an evolution and less of a rehash. Most importantly, Marvel isn’t giving up on the concept. The symbiote is still alive somewhere in the MCU and will wait until the right time.
So far, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ appears to be about rebuilding Peter Parker after he’s lost everything. It’s a good story in itself. If Marvel ever decides to take a stab at the symbiote story in a future movie, it will get the space and attention it deserves, and perhaps the hype will be worth the wait.
