Spider-Man fans have been asking for a while about what will happen to Peter Parker after the heart-wrenching conclusion of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is finally coming back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the web-slinger’s journey may not be over, according to new comments from director Destin Daniel Cretton.

Spider-Man’s Next Chapter Could Extend Well Beyond ‘Brand New Day’

Cretton’s new comments have reignited speculation about Spider-Man’s future in the franchise beyond ‘Brand New Day’, but Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have yet to announce the next sequel. While on the Crew Call podcast, Cretton was asked if they’ve already started talking about a fifth Spider-Man movie, or if Brand New Day could be the end of Holland’s stint.

Instead of answering directly, the director provided a humorous answer: “Is there ever a last Spider-Man? Everyone should go to this [movie] as if it’s the last Spider-Man.” It doesn’t necessarily mean there’s another sequel coming, but it doesn’t sound like someone is making the rounds of the audience saying goodbye either.

That’s the attitude of Spider-Man and the one that fits him perfectly in the Marvel universe. Not many heroes have been as universally beloved as Peter Parker, and Spider-Man is still one of the studio’s most important characters in terms of value. It’s hard to imagine that ‘Brand New Day’ would be the last one for many of the fans.

Interestingly, Holland recently expressed his own ideas on the future of the Spider-Man mantle. The actor has said that he loves playing Peter Parker, but he has hinted that he would be pleased to help introduce the next generation of Spider heroes.

Fans have embraced names such as Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, and Spider-Woman, and Holland has openly acknowledged that he’d love to pass the torch one day. His remarks indicate that Spider-Man is not just a role for one actor but one that will be carried on by others.

That prospect is even more fascinating as Marvel transitions to ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ which is set to change up portions of the MCU. The soft reboot may be in the near future. However, Marvel will have some new avenues to explore for Spider-Man’s universe in exciting ways.

At the moment, everyone’s focus is on ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’. However, as Cretton teases and Holland offers to help shape the future of the franchise, one thing seems more and more certain: Peter Parker’s story is not over yet. The next generation of Spider-Man may just be beginning.
