A new behind-the-scenes look at ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ gave fans a new outfit for Spidey for the winter, featuring a puffer vest and winter hat over the iconic red and blue suit teased at the end of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’.

It’s a minor thing, but it’s indicative of the direction the MCU is going with Peter Parker next. Spider-Man is finally grounded for the first time in a long time.

Since Peter Parker’s first appearance in the MCU in ‘Captain America: Civil War’, his suits have been full of cutting-edge Stark technology. Cool features, yes, but sometimes Spider-Man started feeling more like Iron Man Jr than the scrappy Queens teenager from the comics.

That’s why this new winter ensemble is perfect. Peter doesn’t need billionaire tech to fend off the cold in New York; he puts clothes on over the suit like a normal person. It’s functional, clumsy, and very quirky. The overall vibe of this Spider-Man feels like a home-made affair, which makes it more real.

It’s also a very entertaining sight to see a superhero deal with normal problems. A wool hat and a puffer vest don’t seem like that big of a deal, but somehow, it makes Holland’s Spider-Man feel more human than some of his biggest action scenes.

Fans Shouldn’t Expect A Massive New Suit Upgrade

In most MCU Spider-Man films, almost all of them come with a new major costume change. For most of the MCU, there was a new major costume change introduced. New gadgets, new colors, new tech, Marvel loves to keep the toy shelves stocked. However, that’s where ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ could help to slow down.

Following the conclusion of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, Peter Parker was forgotten and no longer had access to Stark resources and luxury upgrades. That changes everything. Rather than having to get new armor all the time, Peter now appears to be stuck with one reliable homemade suit.

Marvel will, of course, be able to make merchandise-friendly variations, though. The winter look speaks for itself. However, there’s a big difference between adding seasonal accessories and unveiling another nanotech super-suit in every movie.

And honestly? That’s probably for the best. Spider-Man is a kid with impossible responsibilities, and that’s where he’s best suited. If ‘Brand New Day’ continues to play it straight, then Tom Holland’s next MCU story might be his most comic-true yet.
