The Boys’ is in its final season, and the discussion about the show seems to have gone as wild as the show itself, and Karl Urban seems to have had enough of it.

The actor, who stars as the no-nonsense Billy Butcher, recently took on online haters for season 5 head-on. Urban’s response was quick, biting, and fitting, given Butcher’s knack for being on-brand.

Karl Urban directly addressed the criticism in the comments, mocking the username of the Instagram user and then defending creator Eric Kripke and the Soldier Boy storyline. “Stupid a– humor? Son … Your handle is literally soupypoopy69 & FYI @erickripke1 wrote this s— because it’s what Clara would have wanted,” he wrote.

His answer instantly gained attraction, with fans making fun of him, saying he didn’t sound like himself anymore; it sounded like Butcher. But the backlash against ‘The Boys’ season 5 hasn’t come out of nowhere. The season has generally been well-received, but a vocal group of fans has complained about pacing in the final chapter.

There were a few episodes that were more character drama, set-up for future spin-offs, and long conversations in the last season, which was expected to go full throttle. Viewers were naturally expecting more of the chaos. One thing that has been a big pain has been the spotlight on Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles).

Fans believe the show is wasting too much time setting up the prequel series ‘Vought Rising’, rather than finishing the main story that fans have been following for years. Even episode 7 became the lowest-rated episode on IMDb. That’s a stunning drop for a series that once felt nearly untouchable in pop culture.

The Finale Has One Last Chance To Win Fans Back

Even if the critics are right, it would be too early to dismiss ‘The Boys’ entirely. The final seasons of big genre shows are typically met with a lot of backlash. ‘Game of Thrones’, ‘Stranger Things’, and ‘Squid Game’ were all about high expectations from fans that were so high that they simply could not be met by the end.

Now that’s the problem, ‘The Boys’ are facing with their upcoming final “Blood and Bone.” If the last episode delivers emotionally and gives Butcher, Homelander, and the rest of the cast a memorable ending, the current backlash could cool down quickly. However, if it falters, season 5 could be remembered more for the debates about it than for its story.
