Chris Evans’ much-anticipated return as Steve Rogers is proving to be more than a throwback. The footage presented at Marvel Studios’ CinemaCon show has generated a lot of speculation among fans about what happens next in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’.
And it could also finally put to rest one of the biggest mysteries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: what happened to Steve after he returned the Infinity Stones at the end of ‘Avengers: Endgame’? Now, instead of just resurrecting Captain America for another fight, Marvel seems to be filling in the missing years.
Chris Evans’ Return Could Rewrite Everything Fans Assumed About Steve Rogers’ Ending

The footage reportedly features Thor preparing the Avengers for their fight against Doctor Doom when an unexpected voice says, “Hey, pal”. Just a few seconds later, Mjolnir goes from Thor’s hand and straight into Steve Rogers’ hands, proving he is still worthy.

That one moment raises so many questions. For years, viewers believed that Steve had a quiet life with Peggy Carter before he came back as an old man to pass his shield to Sam Wilson. However, if Steve is back in action and swinging Mjolnir again, his tale could have been much more interesting than people knew.
However, instead of rewriting ‘Endgame’, Marvel may be announcing that Steve’s trip to get the Infinity Stones and get to Sam has been a lot more perilous than originally thought. It’s an intriguing concept that allows one of the MCU’s favorite heroes to have a whole new chapter without ruining his heart-wrenching goodbye.
MCU Might Finally Explain Steve Rogers’ Mysterious Journey

The video has also sparked some discussion as to whether this is the same Steve Rogers from the Infinity Saga or a different one from the Multiverse. In the Multiverse Saga, there is still a chance for variants. However, several reports indicate this is the original Steve continuing the journey that audiences believed had ended.

Avengers: Doomsday isn’t just about Steve Rogers coming back for fan service. If these early reveals are any indication, the film could finally fill in the missing chapter of his life that fans have been asking about for years, and also rewrite the ending of ‘Avengers: Endgame’.
