Millie Bobby Brown is looking back at one of the funniest memories from her ‘Stranger Things‘ days. The actress recently shared that lunchtime on set often came with plenty of laughs because of the food she liked to bring from home.
As it turns out, her British lunch choices surprised her co-stars so much that they would “food-shame” her every time they saw what she was eating.
Why Millie Bobby Brown Could Never Eat Lunch in Peace on ‘Stranger Things’ Set

During her recent appearance on Hot Ones, the actress shared that her American castmates were baffled by the traditional British meals she brought to set while filming the series.

“When I was on ‘Stranger Things’, I used to get food-shamed a lot,” Brown explained. “When I would go on, they’d be all American, and they’d be like, ‘Mate, what the f*** are you eating?’”
Brown revealed that the reactions were relentless. “Because they were like, ‘It’s like you live in the 1800s and you found some, like, speciality. It’s, like, wrapped in tinfoil.’”
The teasing became so constant that Brown admitted that she had to find creative ways just to sneak in her lunch, often having to go “hide in a corner” in order to eat her meal in peace.
But even then, the questions kept coming. “They’d be like, ‘What is that?’” she recalled, laughing. “And I was just like, ‘…It’s a jacket potato with beans and cheese. It’s nothing.’”
Brown’s Beloved British Staples That Never Needed Explaining Back Home

While her ‘Stranger Things’ colleagues couldn’t understand the appeal of a jacket potato, Brown revealed how the response is completely different whenever she’s filming in the U.K. “So they didn’t get it,” she said of her ‘Stranger Things’ friends, “but when I go on set in England, everyone’s like, ‘Having a jacket! Lovely!’”

Although Brown has since found a home with her husband Jake Bongiovi and their daughter in rural Georgia, she says her British roots still shine through.
It especially happens when she visits family back in England. Her mother, she joked, has one signature dish that appears on the menu far more often than anyone would expect.
“Spag bol is pretty much the only thing my mum can cook,” Brown explained, referring to spaghetti bolognese. “It’s, like, Friday, mum’s like, ‘I’m making another spag bol!’ And I’m like, ‘Mum, we’ve had it, like, three times this week. We can’t have any more spag bols.’” But Brown still admits it is one of her all-time favorites.
While her ‘Stranger Things’ cast may never understand the appeal to her comfort foods, Brown clearly hasn’t let the food-shaming change her taste. It seems that some British foods are simply worth defending against all odds.
