In ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, we’re offered a surprisingly specific reason as to why Doctor Strange’s spell was broken. The idea was for Strange to make everyone forget that Spider-Man is Peter Parker. However, Peter’s interference with the spell caused some of the people to be drawn from other universes who knew that Peter Parker was Spider-Man.
This makes the returning villains easy to identify. There were direct connections between Spider-Man and Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Electro, Sandman, and Lizard. Then there’s Eddie Brock. In his universe, Eddie never met Peter Parker. He seems not to know Peter. Yet he and the Venom symbiote were still pulled into the MCU. And that still doesn’t make sense.
The Symbiote Could Know What Eddie Doesn’t
One potential explanation is that the symbiote itself is responsible. Venom is not just a suit of alien armor on Eddie. The symbiotes are linked by a hive mind, and the post-credit scene even suggests that the species knows more than just what it sees, with knowledge spanning the multiverse.

This opens up an intriguing possibility. What if the symbiote already knew someone else from another universe who was Spider-Man? Eddie doesn’t necessarily have to be acquainted with Peter Parker. It may be the knowledge of the symbiote and not the host.
If the spell knew that connection, then Venom’s arrival all of a sudden makes a lot more sense. It would also fit with the strange conversation between Eddie and the symbiote, where it suggests that their species knows other universes, but the film doesn’t explicitly state this is the reason they were pulled through. And that’s important.
Marvel May Still Have Another Explanation
The simplest reading is that the spell pulled in people connected to the secret of Peter Parker being Spider-Man, rather than requiring every individual to have personally met Peter. But Venom is still an exception, since Eddie’s universe doesn’t make that connection.

This is what makes the scene so interesting. Perhaps, in the future, Marvel will show that a different version of the symbiote came across a Spider-Man somewhere in the multiverse and shared that information through the hive mind.
If that’s the case, then the symbiote must have dragged Eddie into the MCU due to his knowledge of what Eddie didn’t. If so, Eddie may have been dragged into the MCU because the symbiote knew what Eddie didn’t.
It seems like it was done on purpose. Perhaps Venom’s existence was just a multiversal loophole. Or perhaps Marvel has been working on a backstory that hasn’t been announced. Either that or Eddie Brock’s arrival is one ‘No Way Home’ mystery that still doesn’t fit.
