Why Tom Holland’s Spider-Man Will Never Appear In Live-Action Disney+ Shows

Marvel Studios has officially confirmed that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will not be making an appearance in any live-action Disney+ shows. This revelation comes directly from Marvel Studios executive Brad Winderbaum.

He made it clear that Marvel still doesn’t have full rights to the Web-slinger. Meanwhile, the reveal of Richard Parker’s survival in the animated universe has opened up exciting new storytelling possibilities.

Brad Winderbaum clarified that while Marvel Studios retains the ability to feature Spider-Man in animated projects, the live-action rights for TV remain exclusively with Sony. “Sony has the long-form television rights, we can do 30-minute animation,” he told Brandon Davis.

This revelation might be disappointing for MCU fans. However, Marvel is finding creative ways to keep Spider-Man’s presence alive, particularly through its animated storytelling. The recently concluded season of ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’ could have major implications not just for the animated universe, but for Holland’s live-action Spider-Man as well.

Since Tom Holland’s debut as Spider-Man, the MCU has been notably silent about Peter Parker’s biological parents. However, it changed with ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’, which introduced a shocking twist: Richard Parker, Peter’s father, is alive. This revelation adds an entirely new layer to Peter Parker’s story.

Additionally, this is the first time a version of Spider-Man has coexisted with an adult Richard Parker. Given that the shoe closely mirrors events from the MCU’s main 616 timeline, it’s entirely possible that Richard Parker’s fate in the animated series could have implications for ‘Spider-Man 4’ and beyond.

Why ‘Spider-Man 4’ Release Date Changed

Fans eagerly awaiting Tom Holland’s next solo outing as Spider-Man will have to wait a little longer. Sony Pictures has officially delayed ‘Spider-Man 4’, pushing its release date from July 24, 2026, to July 31, 2026. One of the biggest reasons for the move appears to be the highly anticipated release of Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’, which will now have a one-week head start.

While ‘Spider-Man 4’ is expected to dominate the box office, shifting the release date slightly allows it to sidestep a direct showdown with Nolan’s epic film. Production on the film is set to begin in late 2025, with Destin Daniel Cretton confirmed as the director.

Moreover, the decision to delay the release isn’t necessarily indicative of any behind-the-scenes issues. Instead, it could simply be a strategic move by Sony and Marvel to ensure the film has the best possible box office performance. Given the massive success of No Way Home, expectations are sky-high for Peter Parker’s next adventure.
