Marvel Studios’ upcoming film, ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’, is generating major buzz, and one of the biggest reasons is Vanessa Kirby’s casting as Sue Storm, aka the Invisible Woman.
Kirby, known for her performances in ‘The Crown’ and ‘Mission: Impossible’, is stepping into the MCU for what may be her most exciting role yet. Now, the new trailer gave fans a glimpse of the actor in her role.
Vanessa Kirby On The Family Bond In ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’
The ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ trailer gave fans a stunning first look at Marvel’s First Family in a retro-futuristic setting, along with an ominous introduction to Galactus. Moreover, it confirms the heart of the story to be the family bond between the Fantastic Four.
In a recent interview, Kirby shared her thoughts on joining the MCU and how she approached the role of Sue Storm. She emphasized how fascinating it was to explore different iterations of the character over the decades while finding her own interpretation.
“It was amazing to read those different decades,” Kirby said. “They changed so much, but the characters are all there for us to make what we wanted to because they were all facets.” The trailer hints at an origin story, showcasing the astronauts’ transformation after their exposure to cosmic radiation.
Moreover, in one touching moment, Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards expresses his nerves about their first trip into space. Sue, however, remains the glue that holds them together. “Ben has always been a rock, Johnny is Johnny, and I’m right here. Whatever life throws at us, we’ll face it together, as a family.“
Vanessa Kirby Feels “Honored” To Play Sue Storm
For Vanessa Kirby, stepping into Sue’s shoes is both a challenge and an honor. Speaking to ET, she couldn’t hide her excitement about ‘First Steps’. “I just came from set,” she revealed. “I’m flying back tonight in about two hours to go back onto set. It’s quite surreal. I’m loving Sue. I love her so much. I love her in the comics, I’m honored to play her.”

Her enthusiasm is contagious, and it’s clear she’s fully invested in bringing Sue Storm to life. She follows in the footsteps of Jessica Alba and Kate Mara, who previously played the Invisible Woman in live-action adaptations. Additionally, Alba even offered Kirby some words of encouragement.
“To be able to meet so many different people that you can touch and bring joy to them, I would say that’s first and foremost for anyone who gets the honor of playing one of these awesome characters. So I’d tell her to just have fun and soak in the moments.” With an all-star cast ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated films in the MCU. Fans will get to see her in action when the film hits theaters on July 25, 2025.
