The news of Henry Cavill not returning as Superman hit everyone like a ton of bricks. This comes just weeks after James Gunn took over as the co-chairman and co-CEO of DC Studios. These developments might benefit Marvel in the longer run.
The change in guards in DC has shelved a lot of films including Cavill’s Superman, Dwayne Johnson led ‘Black Adam’ as well as the third installment of ‘Wonder Woman.’ Let’s take a closer look at this entire situation and if Marvel will have an impact because of it.
DCEU Has Been Dismantled
DC had been struggling for years when it came to delivering quality films that made a lot of money. The top executives finally did an overhaul and hired James Gunn to do the changes.
Since the WB Discover merger, the company has been laying off employees, canceling films, and doing several other drastic changes to cut costs. Recently, it was announced that Henry Cavill will not be returning as Superman.
This news is especially heartbreaking for fans as Cavill announced on October 24 that he will be back as the superhero. Henry’s film is not the only one to be axed. Dwayne Johnson-led ‘Black Adam‘, as well as the third installment of ‘Wonder Woman’, have also been canceled.

This Might Benefit Marvel In The Short Run
Gunn has declared that a younger actor will portray Superman in the upcoming films. So far, DC has been struggling to come up with good-quality content. Gunn might change that, given his track record and association with Marvel.
Unlike DC, Marvel has had a tryst with success with some of the highest-grossers coming under its umbrella. There’s also been a laid-out phase-wise plan for films and show releases. With no clear planned projects in immediate months from DC, the road is clear for Marvel to deliver their best with no competition in sight. However, it might just be short-lived as Gunn is in control now.
The director behind ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘ will surely benefit the company with his visions and story-teller instincts, unlike executives with no film background. Whatever he will do for DC, will be interesting to observe.
