Working with Meryl Streep sounds like a dream, and Amanda Seyfried has confirmed the Hollywood legend is just as amazing off-screen. The two played mother and daughter in the ‘Mamma Mia!‘ movies, and Seyfried has plenty of good things to say about her former costar.
However, she also revealed one thing that could make working with Streep a little tricky. And surprisingly, it has nothing to do with Streep herself.
Amanda Seyfried Reveals What Working With Meryl Streep Is Really Like

During a conversation with Alec Baldwin at the Hamptons International Film Festival on October 4, Seyfried opened up about her experience working with the 77-year-old actress. According to PEOPLE, she described Streep as someone who always reminded her to stay present while performing.

“She’s super chill and always honest in every performance,” Seyfried shared. She then praised Streep’s ability to make even the weakest writing believable, adding, “It’s just you could have a script written by the worst computer, and she would make it make sense and feel authentic.”
However, there’s one catch. Seyfried explained that actors can easily spoil the experience if they let Streep’s legendary status get into their heads. “You can’t go wrong, unless you are intimidated,” she said. “And then you can, you can totally just ruin the vibe.” So, apparently, the trick to working with an acting icon is to stop stressing about working with an acting icon!
The Two Stars Have A Long ‘Mamma Mia!’ History

Seyfried and Streep first shared the screen in 2008’s Mamma Mia!, playing Sophie and her mother, Donna. The musical also brought together an impressive cast, including Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgård, Christine Baranski, Julie Walters, and Dominic Cooper.

The cast reunited for Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again in 2018, with Cher and Lily James joining the musical franchise. However, Streep had a much smaller role in the sequel. Donna died sometime between the two films, so the actress appeared only briefly as her character’s ghost during the emotional ending.
Despite Donna’s death, fans may not have seen Streep last in the franchise. As discussions about a third Mamma Mia! movie continue, the producers and cast have already considered ways to bring her character back.
The possibility of another reunion grew even more exciting in February, when Universal Pictures Chairwoman Donna Langley confirmed that “there will be a Mamma Mia 3” and promised they would “find a way to bring her back.”
Fortunately, Streep herself seems interested in returning. In a 2023 Vogue interview, the actress made it clear she wasn’t ruling out another musical adventure. “I’m up for anything,” she said. “I’ll have to schedule a knee scoping before we film, but if there’s an idea that excites me, I’m totally there.”
So, fans will have to wait to see how the filmmakers could bring Donna back after her emotional farewell.
