Sydney Sweeney is rumored to be starring alongside Johnny Depp in an upcoming supernatural thriller, and fans of both stars were already losing their calm over the fantastic possibility. The ‘Euphoria‘ star took to social media to seemingly address the rumor, though she has not confirmed the said rumor.
The rumors stemmed from film critic Jeff Sneider’s newsletter, ‘The InSneider’, where he claimed that Sweeney and Depp would be appearing in director Marc Webb’s film ‘Day Drinker’. However, Sweeney seemed to address the speculation with a tweet on Saturday, redirecting attention to her latest horror film, ‘Immaculate’.
“Woke up to ✨rumors✨ anyways go see @ImmaculateMovie in theaters this weekend!” she wrote in a tweet on X. The tweet did not confirm whether or not the rumors were true, creating even more unrest among the fans. While some assumed that the actress is denying any such collaboration with Depp, some others opined that it’s Sweeney’s way of teasing her upcoming project with him.

As speculations swirl, Sneider’s piece about the supposed Sweeney and Depp collaboration remains on his website labeled as an “exclusive”. The film critic also pinned Sweeney’s post to the top of his Twitter account. Sneider also responded to Sweeney’s remarks, writing, “A non-denial.”
However, a representative for Sweeney confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that she is not involved in ‘Day Drinker’.
What We Know About ‘Day Drinker’
‘Day Drinker’ is based on a story by Zach Dean, who also wrote some hit films including ‘Fast X’ and ‘The Tomorrow War’. The movie is reportedly set in Spain, Portugal, and France, and follows the story of a grieving bartender who meets an “enigmatic stranger“. As the story develops, it brings in several elements. including the themes of love, friendship, and revenge.
Director Marc Webb, known for his work on ‘500 Days of Summer’ and ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’, is currently in production on Disney’s live-action Snow White remake. Meanwhile, Sweeney has hit the screen with her debut production ‘Immaculate’. The actress takes on the role of a young nun grappling with a sinister pregnancy in an Italian convent.
As for Johnny Depp, the actor was last in the limelight for the controversy due to allegations of domestic violence from his ex-wife Amber Heard. While he lost a libel lawsuit against The Sun in 2020, he won a defamation lawsuit against Heard in 2022.
Despite the legal battles, Depp’s most recent acting credit was voicing Johnny Puff in the animated film ‘Johnny Puff: Secret Mission’. His involvement in Jerry Bruckheimer’s planned ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ reboot is in the talks but remains uncertain, as neither he nor his former costars have officially confirmed their return to the franchise.
