“He Would Have Made An Excellent Bond, But…”: ‘Casino Royale’ Director Reflects On Henry Cavill’s James Bond Audition And Reveals The Sole Weak Point That Robbed Him Of The Role

James Bond is one of those action film franchises that has not broken the boundaries like ‘Mission: Impossible’ and ‘Fast & Furious’, but at the same time created a bigger legacy. The routine storylines and action sequences have always grabbed the attention of the audience.

The best part of this franchise is that various actors have portrayed the role of Bond and the producers did not repeat bringing the same actor again and again for the same character. However, people are unaware that Henry Cavill had auditioned once in the past before Daniel Craig was chosen to portray Bond.

Daniel Craig portrayed James Bond from ‘Casino Royale’ in 2006

Although Daniel Craig was praised for his appearance as James Bond, the decision for his casting was not welcomed by everyone. Many people were critical of the casting and according to Martin Campbell, he was too young at the time.

Casting director Debbie McWilliams said that she felt sorry for Craig due to the backlash and added: “The press response was awful and I felt so sorry for him, but in a funny kind of a way I think it almost spurred him on to do his damndest to prove everybody wrong.”

Debbie also revealed that as they were filming, reports were coming out that there were a lot of issues with Craig’s walking style and driving skills. Craig played the role for the last time in ‘No Time To Die’ and the future of the franchise is yet to be decided.
