‘Childhood Superhero’: Popeye The Sailor Man Live Action In The Works As A Big Budget Feature

The iconic sailor man Popeye has been a part of almost everyone’s childhood. Popeye was introduced in 1929 in a comic strip titled ‘Thimble Theatre’ written by E.C. Segar. However, after the comics were turned into animated films and TV series they completely took over, transforming Popeye into a huge pop culture icon.

The announcement of a Popeye live-action being in the works was huge for the audience it has garnered over the decades. Earlier this year the character celebrated its 95th anniversary further showcasing the evergreen traits it possesses.

‘Popeye’ Live Action: What To Expect

The iconic cartoon character from first being in the comics and then being turned into a cartoon is finally coming to the big screen with its own live-action movie. Chernin Entertainment and King Features are joining forces to work on the live-action which was deemed as a ‘big budget feature’.

Furthermore, the screenwriter Michael Caleo is revealed to be working on the project. He is known for writing huge hit series like ‘The Sopranos‘ (1999), ‘The Family‘ (2013), and ‘Sexy Beast‘ (2024). However, the dates regarding the release of the live-action movie are not yet released.

Fans React To Their Childhood Being Revived

A lot of people remember their childhood through the cartoons they watched at the time. The same case is with Popeye and people are excited about the project. Fans had a lot to say about the live-action project and shared their opinions on what would work the best. 

Another Popeye live-action movie which was also released previously in the 1980s starring Robin Williams. Despite being directed by Robert Altman and produced by Paramount Pictures and Walt Disney Productions the film was not well received. So, people have high hopes for the next live-action movie.
