The reunion goes beyond the cast. Adele Lim, who co-wrote the original film, will serve as the show’s showrunner. She will also executive produce alongside director Jon M. Chu, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, and Kevin Kwan, who wrote the books that inspired the movie and upcoming series.

Lim couldn’t hide her excitement about the project. She said, “It’s a CRAZY RICH family reunion!”. She added, “This series is the sequel we’ve been waiting for, but instead of just one movie, we get eight episodes to delve into the characters and worlds of Kevin Kwan’s brilliant books.”

The eight-episode format also gives the team more time to explore the characters and their stories. Instead of squeezing everything into another movie, the series can take viewers deeper into Kwan’s world of wealthy families, complicated relationships, and extravagant lifestyles.

For fans who have spent years hoping for a sequel, the announcement is definitely worth celebrating. HBO has yet to reveal a premiere date, but with production starting in 2027 and much of the original team returning, Rachel and Nick’s next chapter is officially on its way.
