The movie ‘Scream VII‘ has been in the headlines for a while now as key people in the movie have abandoned it. Adding yet another, and rather shocking entry to the list, is the movie’s director Christopher Landon.
Renowned for his work on horror films like ‘Happy Death Day’ and ‘Freaky’, has officially stepped away from directing ‘Scream VII’. Landon announced on Saturday that he would be leaving the Saturday. He is the third big name after actress Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera, who parted ways from the movie.

“My Heart Breaks… But It’s Time To Move On,” Says Director Christopher Landon
Taking to social media platform X on Saturday, Landon expressed mixed feelings about leaving what initially seemed like a dream job. “I guess now is as good a time as any to announce I formally exited Scream 7 weeks ago. This will disappoint some and delight others. It was a dream job that turned into a nightmare. And my heart did break for everyone involved. Everyone. But it’s time to move on,” Landon wrote on X Saturday.
“I have nothing more to add to the conversation other than I hope Wes’ legacy thrives and lifts above the din of a divided world. What he and Kevin created is something amazing and I was honored to have even the briefest moment basking in their glow,” he added.

‘Scream VII’ Production In Shambles After Melissa Barrera Got Fired, Jenna Ortega Left
The development comes days after actress Melissa Barrera was fired from ‘Scream VII‘ because of her allegedly antisemitic social media post against the backdrop of the ongoing Israel-Hamas War.
Though the actress was fired back in October, the official announcement was made on November 21. Just a few months before that, Jenna Ortega also decided to leave the movie after consulting with the representation team.
Landon was highly dissatisfied with Barrera’s firing. He took to social media on November 11, to clarify it was not a decision that he made. “This is my statement: 💔 Everything sucks. Stop yelling,” he had written.
Reports claim that the script was largely focused on Barrera’s character, and her exit has therefore left the movie-makers with a significant setback.
With Landon’s departure, writer-producer James Vanderbilt is the only one carrying the onus. He was vitally involved in co-writing the rebooted movies and the current script for the ‘Scream’ franchise.
