Many Disney live-action classics like ‘Aladdin’, ‘The Little Mermaid’, and ‘Beauty and Beast’ have remained timeless and relevant since their release. Out of all the live-action films ‘Hunchback of Notre Dame‘ is one of the bravest and best movies that Disney has ever made.
The ‘Hunchback of Notre Dame’ has one of the most beautiful scores in Disney’s history. Originally created by Victor Hugo, the film was a darker tale for the audiences. It portrayed a tragic but relevant story about the reality of society’s monster, yet becoming one of the greatest musical masterpieces of all time.

What happened To Disney’s Remake Of ‘Hunchback Of Notre Dame’?
In 2019 the remake of the 1996 ‘Hunchback of Notre Dame‘ was announced, titled Hunchback. But recently during an interview with Comicbook, the Disney composer Alan Menken revealed that the project is on hold. He said, “I have no idea. It’s a tough one, because the Hunchback movie, Hunchback story involves a lot of real, real issues that are important issues and should be explored to be discussed”.
Alan Menken further added, “And there has to be an agreement about how we deal with those issues. You know, do we do a Hunchback without ‘Hellfire?’ I don’t think so…so it sits in this limbo right now, but the Hercules movie is apparently underway and I got some inklings of what’s going on, but just some, and I’ve been more involved with the Broadway show off of Hercules, which is coming, and it’s really exciting.”

The Film’s Significance
‘Hunchback of Notre Dame‘ surely was not for kids as it was dark and showcased the harsh reality of society. It is even a surprise that Disney backed a green signal to the ‘Hunchback of Notre Dame‘ in 1996. The film shares a crucial message on how we should treat ourselves as human beings. The film only seems to be scary because of how practically it portrayed the problems and prejudices that have been present in human civilization since the beginning.
Also, ‘Hunchback of Notre Dame‘ shows the dangers of xenophobia and other positive aspects as well. Quasimodo is a disabled person shown as a very capable hero and Esmeralda is shown as one of the strongest female characters who stood up not only for herself but also for what is right.
