Hollywood is officially going back to the early 2000s, and honestly, there are few rom-coms better suited for a comeback than ‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days’. Paramount is finally developing a sequel to the 2003 romantic comedy, with Kate Hudson attached to produce.

The project is still in its early stages, with a screenwriter and several key creative roles yet to be chosen. The studio reportedly hopes Hudson and Matthew McConaughey will eventually return as Andie Anderson and Benjamin Barry. Nothing is locked in yet, but just the possibility of seeing these two together again is enough to get nostalgic rom-com fans excited.

The original movie worked because Hudson and McConaughey had the kind of chemistry that is extremely difficult to manufacture. Hudson’s Andie deliberately tries to become the worst girlfriend imaginable for an article, while McConaughey’s Benjamin accepts a bet that he can make her fall in love with him.

Naturally, their ridiculous schemes collide, and somewhere between all the manipulation and chaos, they actually develop real feelings. It was silly, charming, and completely aware of what kind of movie it was.

The film became a major commercial success, earning nearly $180 million worldwide, and eventually became one of the defining romantic comedies of its era. Now, the biggest question is what happens next.

The sequel comes at a very convenient moment for Hollywood. Audiences have been embracing nostalgia for the late 1990s and early 2000s, with major follow-ups bringing old franchises back to theaters.

A ‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days’ sequel could easily fit into that wave. But there is one thing Paramount absolutely cannot lose: the chemistry between Andie and Benjamin.

A sequel shouldn’t simply recreate the original with younger characters or repeat the same dating games. The fun would be seeing what happened to this couple after all these years. Are they still together? Did marriage make them even more chaotic? There are plenty of possibilities.

And if Hudson and McConaughey actually return, this could be more than another nostalgia sequel. It could be the rare rom-com comeback that genuinely feels worth making.
