The ‘Scream’ franchise faced a major star drought as Spyglass Entertainment fired Melissa Barrera, and Jenna Ortega exited it. Melissa’s firing came after she posted a statement in solidarity with the Palestinians and called Gaza “a concentration camp.”
After that, Jenna Ortega’s announcement came that she is leaving the franchise over the date issues as she has resumed shooting for the second season of ‘Wednesday’. While the ‘Scream’ franchise’s future is hung on a thread, the makers have been considering bringing back old characters and actors. One of the frontrunners is Neve Campbell, and the actress has also shown interest, but she has set certain conditions.

Neve Campbell Does Not Want To See The ‘Scream’ Franchise Burn
In June 2022, Neve Campbell confirmed that she would be exiting the ‘Scream’ franchise. In a statement, she said that she is exiting it due to pay parity. The franchise’s future, after Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera’s absence, is murky. As per Variety, the makers are considering bringing back Neve Campbell and Patrick Dempsey’s characters in the new ‘Scream’ film.
Recently, during BAFTA’s Tea Party, Neve Campbell talked to The Hollywood Reporter about whether she would return to the franchise. She said, “I know things are spinning at the moment, and I would imagine they are spinning at the top trying to figure out what they’re going to do. I would not be surprised to get a call.”
Neve added, “Would I do it? There are millions of fans out there of this franchise. These movies mean a lot to people. They mean a lot to me. They mean a lot to [Kevin Williamson].
She continued, “They meant a lot to [Wes Craven]. They meant a lot to all of these castmembers, and we would all love to see this franchise continue. I would hate to see it burn. So, we’ll see.”

The Actress’ Stand Was Not To Pander Her Ego
Neve Campbell released a statement in 2022 to announce her exit from the ‘Scream’ franchise due to a low-pay offer. She wrote, “Sadly, I won’t be making the next Scream film. As a woman, I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream. I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.”
During the interview, when she was asked about coming back to the franchise, Neve Campbell said, “I made a strong statement a few years ago, which is I did not believe that the way that I was treated would’ve happened if I had been a male and that I deserve a certain thing for having carried this franchise for as long as I have.”
Neve Campbell made it clear that her standing up for herself was not an egoistical move. She added, “We have to stand up for women in this business and know what we’re worth. That hasn’t changed for me. So, if they were to come back to me, it would have to be with a respectful offer that I felt was in keeping with what I bring to this franchise.”
