Jodi Benson voiced the original Ariel in the 1989 animated version of The Little Mermaid. She voiced the protagonist of the story, a red-haired mermaid, Ariel, who has an unending wish to experience life outside of the sea. After she falls in love with a Prince, she takes the form of a human to be with him.

Benson recently spoke about the new live-action version of the film that is about to hit theaters. Many viewers have expressed their worry regarding the changes made in the new film. Viewers are worried about preserving the authenticity of the tale. Amidst all this, Jodi Benson said, “We’ve got to be aware of our growth as humans and what’s important now and what maybe isn’t as important. Things change. We’ve got to roll with that.” She added that the directors of the movie Rob Marshall and John DeLuca have done a great job in paying tribute to the original movie while changing it up. Benson argued, “But you’ve got to have growth. It’s very important to stay relevant with where we are, what’s going on around us. We need to be aware.”

Jodi Benson expressed that she was excited and very much on board with the fine-tuning and adjustments that were made in the new film. Minor changes were needed to make the film relevant in 2023. She agrees that while fine-tuning was needed, it was done in a beautiful way.
